Event Info
Dear Registrant,
We are looking forward to seeing you at Beltane! Here's some final information. If you have any questions not covered below, please get back to us at cat@turtlehillevents.org and we'll do our best to get it cleared up.
Important info for checking in:
Our SCHED app!
We will not be printing a full program book this year. Instead, we have invested in a very nice online scheduling system which will allow you to create an account to curate your Beltane schedule.
The privacy of the app is set to prevent anyone else from seeing that you have an account, so don’t worry about that.
The Link will be announced soon.
On your computer, you can set up your own schedule and then email it to friends, add it to your calendar app, or even print it out to bring with you!
You can also download an app to your phone or other mobile device which should work with even the spotty service at camp. This app will be updated should any changes need to be made at camp.
We will be printing schedule grids which you will receive when you check in.
If you haven’t joined the Discord server, please email cat@turtlehillevents.org for an invitation! It’s a great way to interact with your fellow attendees before, during, and after the event.
You will be able to view and print the event schedule grid online when we finalize it.
If you arrive at the event before the day you have registered to arrive, you will be expected to pay an upgrade fee. If you can’t remember which day you registered to arrive on, check your confirmation email. If you can’t find your confirmation email, feel free to email cat@turtlehillevents.org for a copy of it. Anything purchased at gate must be done so with CASH ONLY.
IMPORTANT! You will need your legal photo id which must match the name you registered under (don’t worry about middle names). If you don’t have it, no matter who you are or who you know, you will be turned away from the event.
IMPORTANT! Proof of vaccination and testing status:
Upon arrival on site, you will be asked to present proof of initial vaccination. A photo of your card(s) is fine as is proof on an app, which you should have pulled up when you arrive at check-in.
If you haven’t had the initial vax or lost your card or whatever, we will require you to bring your own unexpired COVID test and take it in front of a staffer.
You can check into the event during the following hours:
Wed 4p-10p
Thurs 9a-10p
Fri 9a-10p
Sat 9a-3p
If you arrive outside of those hours:
You will need to radio for assistance.
We will ask you to leave your legal ID with us overnight (we promise to keep it safe and confidential) and you’ll get it back when you come back in the morning to check in.
You will not be allowed to bring a vehicle past the parking field after the hour of 10p for safety reasons. We will be happy to help you bring a reasonable amount of your personal items to your cabin or campsite via golf cart, but please plan appropriately as we won’t be able to make multiple trips. Think bedding and an overnight bag.
After you check in, you will simply need to show your badge to get into the site.
Location
Camp Ramblewood is in northeastern Maryland, about 90 minutes south of Philadelphia, and 45 minutes north of Baltimore. Use your favorite mapping site to find 2564 Silver Rd, Darlington, MD, 21034-1526. The Camp's phone number is 410-457-4228. Please use & distribute this phone number for emergencies only.
Before You Leave Home
Check the weather: You can find a current local forecast for Darlington at your favorite weather information source. May in Maryland can be variable, ranging from nice and warm to cool and rainy, so be sure to pack with this in mind. Thunderstorms are becoming common in recent years.
Mass transit:
The nearest airports are BWI and PHL.
Amtrak stops in Aberdeen, as does the MARC Penn Line (weekday service only).
IMPORTANT! Please note these resources are from before the pandemic and may or may not be entirely accurate.
We cannot provide rides from the train station. There are cab services available: Victory Cab: 410-272-0880; Eagle Taxi: 410-322-3296 or email ride@eagletaxi.net.
What to Bring
Housing & Bedding:
Bring a sleeping bag or sheets and blankets and pillows.
The cabins have standard single beds.
You'll also probably want at least 2 towels.
You might also wish to bring a ‘sex-in-the-field’ blanket.
If you are Tenting:
Do not use anything that produces a flame—torches, lanterns, candles, stoves—inside your tent; you risk setting yourself, your tent and/or your bedding on fire.
We also request that you flag your ropes with reflective or brightly-colored tape so that people can avoid them in the dark. If you don’t have any, ask at HQ for some.
Clothes:
While our event is clothing-optional, clothes are often a good option.
Layers are your friend.
We strongly suggest at least one warm outfit, rain-gear of some sort and one pair of rain-friendly shoes.
Bring fetish wear, sandals, hiking shoes, sexy outfits, comfy clothes.
A hat or parasol may well mean the difference between a pleasant experience and a terrible sunburn. Bring one!
Food:
Meals at Beltane are not included in your registration fee.
If you wish to purchase meals, you can purchase them at the dining hall at each meal time for $20 (breakfast), $20 (lunch) and $20 (dinner), cash only.
If you have any special dietary needs feel free to convey them to the kitchen staff and be vigilant of any ingredients which you cannot tolerate. They will do their best to accommodate your needs.
If you choose to cook your own food, please remember that cooking is not allowed inside cabins or on porches. We recommend you bring some kind of cover as it often rains in Maryland in May.
Washing dishes in the cabin bathrooms is not allowed. There are hoses on the outside of the Barn, the Dining Hall and the Playspace. Please use them.
Personal Care:
If you're taking prescription medications, please bring ample amounts to last you the whole time you're on-site and appropriate storage.
If you have a Medic Alert bracelet, please wear it all the time.
If you have any medical issues you feel we should know about, please let us know when you check in and we’ll put you in touch with our medical team for a confidential meeting so they can help ensure your safety and well being.
You'll probably also want: soap, shampoo & conditioner, baby wipes, comb & brush, toothbrush & toothpaste, aspirin/ibuprofen/acetaminophen, bug repellent, sunblock and poison ivy remedies.
Bring a water bottle. The camp uses local well water which is delicious and tested each year for potability.
Good To Have:
Flashlights: We suggest a flashlight and spare batteries since it gets dark at night and it can be difficult to navigate the site in the dark.
Chairs/Mats: You may want a small portable chair for taking to classes or workshops or even for sitting around the cabins, tents or grounds. People have also been glad to bring with them a mat (like a yoga mat or similar) and/or a towel to sit or lie on in some classes.
Tools & Miscellaneous: Stuff we've found useful and/or necessary: ear plugs, both a sledge hammer (for pounding stakes) and a claw hammer (for pulling them), bungee cords, extra tent stakes, duct or gaff tape, trash bags, a rain poncho, a pair of binoculars (for sky-watching or birding) etc.
Clothing and Costumes:
Dress code for the event is anything or nothing.
The site is clothing optional and you are welcome to dress as you wish, except in the Dining Hall where shoes and something which covers your butt and genitals (including nipples) are required.
Please cover up when in the parking field area.
Fun stuff: Toys, games, fetish wear, cards, camp decorations & banners, your imagination...
What to Leave Home
Do not bring pets or animal companions. We do welcome service animals accompanying people with special needs; please let us know ahead of time if you'll have one with you.
Do not bring firearms.
Do not bring illegal items or substances.
Bad Attitudes - You’re here to have a good time, after all.
On Site
If you haven’t been to Ramblewood, you can learn more about the site and view a map here.
Attendees are housed on both sides of camp.
Private Rooms:
If you have purchased a private room and been to camp before, you have been assigned to either the White House or the Fireside Rooms in the so-called horseshoe (cabins G-N), as you have selected when registered.
If you chose the Fireside, please be aware that the bathrooms inside the cabins are not yet usable. The building inspector will be on site to look at them on Friday, so be prepared for him to walk through your cabin. If we get any warning about the timing on that, we’ll let you know. As usual, the bathrooms at the corners of building are for your use. The camp apologizes for not having the in-room cabins finished yet.
We will not be putting anyone else in your private cabin with you, no matter where it is, but you will have to share the bathroom facilities with others. Please be courteous.
As with all of those housed in a cabin, we require that you help out with clean-up at the end of the event by removing all of your trash, putting the beds back where they were when you arrived, and giving your cabin a final sweep out before you leave. This helps control our costs for putting on the event. Thanks!
Local Resources
IMPORTANT! Please note these resources are from before the pandemic and may or may not be entirely accurate.
Havre de Grace has various restaurants, a couple of grocery stores and a liquor store.
Aberdeen has a Target, Wal-Mart, bed & breakfasts and motels, a couple of big grocery stores, another liquor store, a Radio Shack, a Home Depot, the aforementioned Amtrak/MARC stop, and more restaurants.
Bel Air has a Staples, lots and lots of restaurants, a good liquor store, and a BJ's.
The closest place for essentials is the gas station mini-mart on US 1 a couple miles south of Shuresville Rd (right onto Shuresville from Silver Rd; left onto US 1 South; it's on the left). The closest liquor store is on the way to this mini-mart.
See you soon!
